    Default G'day all

    Hi, I am a 53 year old woodwork teacher living on the south coast of NSW and very proud of my students work. Always looking for new ideas for projects, new technology for the workshop and sources of material for the students to use. I also have 31 years experience teaching kids and designing solutions to their numerous problems in constructing the projects they wish to build. Always keen to hear from other chippies.

    Silly question:
    Do you have a wood lathe at your disposal that the kids
    can learn how to turn various items. If the answer is "Yes"
    as I would expect then please let me know. I may have
    something to suggest.

    yes Allan, we have two long bed and one short bed Woodfast lathes as per government issue, have a range of good turning tools including bowl turning gouges and expanding collet chuck, also faceplats, cup chucks etc.
    I currently do a small christmas tree and angel for year 8, also a small treen vase for dried flowers with bark left on. In year 9 we make a judges gavel and in year 10 a turned bowl. The original idea was to leave a raised platform in the centre to crack nuts with the gavel, but very few students take this option.
    Still, always looking for more ideas, fire away.
