Gday ladies and gents,

My name is Spyro, I work 8-12 hours a day in front of a pc and after that I usually have this irresistible urge to make something, anything.

I started by making a small workshop in our back yard, which I will show you once I figure out why the forum says "invalid URL" when I try to link it to my image host.

All I've learned so far is from the internet, I have zero help or background in woodworking or any other form of making tangible stuff.

Anyway the workshop is still standing and seems weatherproof, so not too bad thus far I guess.

I have about a bazillion questions about other things which is the main reason I'm here, so bear with me please

Next project: a compressor enclosure that keeps most noise in and lets most hot air out. This thing is driving me bananas, I feel like I'm 10cm tall and work inside a speaker.

Edit: I work near the Hare & Forbes Machinery House in Dandenong which had some sort of exhibition today and I popped in on my lunch break, so I have the sneaking suspicion I might have already seen some of you.

Welcome to a top Forum Spyro.
Ask away any questions you might have. When asking, please list what tools and equipment you have available, as it makes it easier on the members here, to answer. It just saves a lot of messing around when someone comes up with an answer, only to find you don't have a drill press, table saw or whatever, also any pics to describe what you might be trying to do, a picture saves a thousand words.

This is actually the most difficult thing, determining what tools to have. And the shed is small so I am very hesitant to put fixed machines in there unless I am 100% confident that I'll be actually using them frequently. Currently I only have all the basic hand tools, a Makita plunge saw and tracks that I use for now on the floor or on collapsible benches, some air tools including nailers, and a giant mitre saw that I bought used to frame my shed and will probably get rid of because it's just too big for my bench. I'm pretty confident I can do my next couple of projects with what I have so I'm ok for now.

I do however like the idea of combination benches that work with track saws, like the Eurekazone or the Festool MFT, so I am doing research on those. But there seems to be some info here so I have some reading to do before I start asking questions that have already been answered

There are a stack members across the Melbourne area, quite a few in country Victoria plus lots more across the rest of the country & the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
