Pretty much basic courtesy, I would have thought.

I have just emailed them expressing my disappointment at their attitude. Perhaps a few more should do the same.

So I guess that means no forum stand this year?

If they're happy to have a forum stand then there's no reason why there won't be one. But I won't be there to do anything for it as I have another commitment for that Friday, Saturday and Sunday and I sure as hell won't be driving an hour or so to the other side of Melbourne to set up the day before I have to drive to waaaay the other side of Melbourne.

This could be a shot in the arm for the shows but from where I stand it looks to me like they may have shot themselves in the foot instead.

I agree with Neil a bit of a call before hand to see what they would be clashing with, I realise the caulfield location could be booked up for future dates due to the spring carnival but not checking with us as they know we do a lot of regional shows .

I just want to clarify - When I said:

    - I was not aware of the clash of dates. What I was commenting on was that a couple of years ago when they announced that the show was moving to Jeff's Shed, I asked some questions relating to parking and access for trailers. The inability of the organizers to answer my concerns indicated that they had not even considered this important aspect for many show attendees. I think that the move to Caulfield has resolved the issues that I raised two years ago.

However, once again the organizers appear to have made a change without doing any proper research by going up against a well-established event for quite a number of dedicated woodworkers from one of the specialized areas of our craft.

With the WWW Show now only three months away, how many other exhibitors will not be able to reschedule things? Chris Vesper and U-Beaut have already said they are out. Jim Carroll has not declared his intentions yet but seems to be indicating a preference for Phillip Island. Having never attended the Turnaround, I do not know if there may be others who go to both events who will have to make a tough decision this year.

I will be watching with interest to see what happens from here.

    Cheers

Something we found out today from a freind who goes to the caravan show at the caulfield racecourse is that ther is only one road in and can take an hour just to get to the gate, then there is a long walk from the carpark which is in the middle of the course , as Rus said if you have your arms full of goodies it can be a very long walk back.

Slowly losing the love for this show.

Sorry to hear that U Beaut and Jim Carroll aren't going to be supporting the Melbourne Show. Sadly Jim or Neil have not exhibited this year at any of the Shows. We continue to support the forum members by way of a discounted entry to the shows as well we have maintained the forum lounge on site. The decision to move the dates and venue for Melbourne was not made lightly but I ask you if you were in my place what would you do? We were faced with space rental increases, storage increases etc. I had 2 options:
    a) increase exhibitor rates
b)run the Melbourne Show at a loss

Thank you to those members who support the move. Without exception we have had 100% positive response from our participating exhibitors for both Melbourne and Canberra moves! Liz

Jim I said all exhibitors who were booked in - you were not booked and in fact you told us last year it was not your intention to do the shows
this year - 2 reasons why you were not called. I take exception you say you will support those who have supported you. The implication is that we haven't supported you in the past...............I want you to think about that Jim!

Re your mention from your caravan friend that its a long walk.............well for many many years the ladies from Stitches and Craft (same aged demographic but female) have attended Caulfield and they manage the walk and carry goods. And to be remembered we also have a parcel pick up if the goods are too heavy to carry.

I have accompanied my girlfriend to Stitches and Craft.

To quote from their website, http://stitchesandcraft.net.au/Melbo...e-show/#loaded

    PARKING
The public car parking for The Stitches & Craft Show in Melbourne is in the Members 1 Car Park with the entry on Smith street. This is free parking with car parking attendants in place to assist with finding places for as many cars as they can. The Main Gate is a short walk across the road from the car park.

That is not the carpark in the centre of the grounds, is it? It is much closer.

I have also been to Caulfield for the caravan show once, and the difference in the walk from the two different car parks is considerable.

Please note that before writing this I was aware that your site is publicising parking in the centre of the course, not outside where the Stitches and Craft Ladies parked. I was happy to make that walk from the centre and pick up from the parcel pickup, but the point I am making is that once again you have not done your research properly and are comparing apples with oranges.

    Cheers

Doug you obviously have a lot of time on your hands and enjoy complaining...... suffice to say many of your comments are not worth responding to I am busy running shows for people who appreciate and enjoy them..............I am afraid I am now sadly aware that nothing we do will be good enough for you, and now understand why previous owners had nothing to do with this forum.

Well, first mistake was to hold the show at a Racecourse - everyone started nagging.

I'm a hobbyist woodworker and have enjoyed the show for years. I intend to go to this one too. I'd love to go to DUTA as well so maybe next year. I don't seem to get any emails or see any advertisements for this event but then again I have not been on the forums for ages.

The forums are a great place for positive criticism, always have been, and Liz should be applauded for commenting, even though she has been taking some lumps here. You have my respect for interacting with us even though it has got to the point it has, please stay with us.

I'm sure that the show will still be good for woodworkers though I will miss some of the familiar faces .

I hope the weekend is a success for everyone.
