    Default New Guy with Question

    G'day all,
    I am a new guy from Sydney that needs to replace the floor of my box trailer, and I need some advice on what thickness steel to use, and where is the best place to source it? I was thinking of using checkerplate, but I think that would be a PITA to sweep out when I have dumped my rubbish at the tip. If anyone has used checkerplate, is it feasible to use instead of flat plate? Thanks.

    Turn the tread plate up side down. Easy to sweep out.

    The box trailer that I built 11 years ago has a sheet of 15mm exterior ply for a floor. It's recieved minimal care (the occasional swab with decking oil or left-over polyurethane) and copped lots of abuse. Has lived outside all the time and often been used to cart concrete pre mix and had the mixer fed straight out of the trailer. It will probably need replacing in the next few years. Formply would probably last longer again. A sheet of formply will set you back around $100 for a 2400 x 1200 and maybe $70 for an 1800 x 1200.

    My 5 x 8 trailer is all checker plate, floor, sides and tailgates. Around 2mm or so thick. Not really that difficult to sweep out with a good straw broom. Can help things from sliding around in the tray. Looks real tough and heavy duty too!
