    Default Jockey wheel design

Currently building a hand trolley for a tinny, all aluminium and plastic only, and will fabricate a jockey wheel from the same materials. Is there a rule of thumb about how far the centre of the wheel axle should trail the centre line of the spindle?

There is no actual rule of thumb, the further back the axle is, the better the steering, depending on diameter of wheel.

Here's what I came up with in the end. I got some stainless from the local scrappy and a plastic wheel from the 'toy shop'. Took the bearings out and made bushes and washers from Acetal, the axle is a piece of white delrin too. Only gal for the R clips but will replace them when I find some in stainless.
