Trailer add ons share them here
Hi
Got a positive comment on my trailer add on the other day and though a new thread for this might be worthy of a try.
So whether it home made or bought let us know about it here.
Mine is some bars 25x50mm that sit flat with top of trailer sides for carrying long flat things that do not fit into trailer like gyprock. I have made up vertical bracket to stop side movement, found them really good for small and thin timber.
It take only about 1 minute to fit the cross bars and there lock to the trailer with a bolt on one side a fixed stud on the other (will change it to a finger bolt) so you can tie to them and help hold the load down.
So if you have any add ons take a photo and put it up here

I don't have anything worthwhile to share I'm afraid but reckon it's a ripper idea for a thread.

I will add to this thread by puting up a problem and get your ideas for a fix
Bottom of trailer is rusting out.
Is there any way I can slow this down? I do carry most thing from gravel to furniture. It also live outside and is used as a bin which slowly fills up till it goes to the tip.
Any suggestion most welcome.

Is it the floor of the trailer or the frame underneath? If its the frame, you can give it a good grind with an angle grinder using a grinding wheel, wire wheel or something similar and then prime it and paint it. This should stop it rusting for a while. Some primers actually kill some rust on application, not all rust, just some. If its the floor, just do the same as what I said above.
Hope this helps.

Russell, are you looking for something more than just to provide drainage?
What you describe is a very common scenario on country blocks. No rubbish collection means regular trips to the tip, which inevitably means one trailer dedicated to rubbish.
Its very common to see, and what I did myself, a whole bunch of holes drilled in the floor so all moisture drains out.
Plus, you often see people that have put a coat of tar on the floor. I never tried it myself.

POR15 is a 2 part paint that is near indestructible.
Check it out here http://por15.com.au/
I've used it a number of times and it works a treat.
I used their fuel tank sealer 2 weeks ago and I still can't get the residue off the top of my fingernails and I've been scrubbing them every day as I work with grease and oils in my daily car building hobby.

You're care and maintenance problem isn't exactly about 'trailer add ons' but to answer your question . . . Yes, you can slow it down by doing the basics and keeping the trailer inside or under cover and if it is left outside, always leave the trailer empty and not level (for drainage) until you are ready to use it. Yep, pretty much do the opposite to what you're doing now.
Getting back to the topic and loosely related to trailer add on's is this tip . . . if you're 'adding on' a jockey wheel to your trailer, you can bolt or weld the J/wheel mount in just the right position so that the knob of the winder will 'click' into the hitch and will stay up out of the way while travelling - refer photo (apologies for bad lighting/presentation). PS: That's the theory anyway (. . . yet to road test)

No picture, but a worthwhile modification to a removable tailgate ramp. The hinge pins are usually the same length. Which means a 2-man task to re-install. Grind about 4mm off the end of one of the pins. Engage the barrel of the longer pin by that amount, and use it as a fulcrum to swing the other barrel into position, then push home. Now a 1-man task.
