Default Source for Brya ebenus (cocus wood)

I'm after a billet of brya ebenus 60mmx60mmx400mm to be turned into a bagpipe piece - so it has to be instrument grade wood. Can anyone help me with a supplier? Thanks.

Thanks - I have been in touch with them - but the price they wanted for a small piece was a little too much - and they couldn't supply a billet big enough.

    They do have nice wood.

    cheers

    Hi countrypiper

I sell highland pipe (13/14 pieces) sets of Pacific/Solomon Blackwood aslo called Queen ebony to McCallum, RT Shepherd and sons, MacMurchie & Wallace bagpipes in Scotland.
I also sell sets to many individuals makers here in Australia. Major Robert Pearce from Australia bagpipe services in Sydney has also bought sets with extra pipe chanter of us as well. if you wish you could contact him to see what his thoughts are of our sets. We are based in Brisbane and have been travelling around with the timber & wood show to all the major cities as well.
Terry McGee an Irish flute maker in NSW has also worked with our timber and has a posting on his web about it as well you could contact him as well if you wish.

The Pacific Blackwood is very similar to the mpingo/African Blackwood in its properties and uses, but is even more stable than ABW. It has a more mellow sound (according to our customers). We have sold to clarinet companies in Germay and france, flute companies in the U.K, Germany and United states as well.

Not to mention guitar companies such as Maton here in Australia and Guitar companies in the U.S

We sell individual pieces to whole sets. We cut to order if need be too. If you are intersted in finding out more give me a call on 07 3392 7111. My company is called SitCo Australia Pty Ltd.

    Best Regards

    Default Your Solomon Blackwood

    Brian

Can you send me a quote to send an instrument grade piece the size that I'm after (NSW mailing address). It looks very similar to cocus (I took a look at terry McGee's site).

    Thanks.

The furniture I make is very basic, and not at all noteworthy - a side table for the wife out of tassie oak, and a desk for the kids - my pipes are made by professionals, I don't muck about with things I'm not qualified to make -if I were 30 years the younger, I'd go to scotland and learn how to make pipes - but it's a bit late now. I just buy wood to repair my 120 year old pipes when they get damaged, and let the pros fix them up.

    cheers.

In fact - can you also send me a quote to supply a 13 billet Great Highland Bagpipe order to NSW. I don't want checked or cracked wood -this needs to be top quality timber for pipe making - I intend to pass it on to Robert Pearce to turn a set of pipes for me - so it should be top quality stuff. sizes are approximately:

    50mm x 50mm x 370mm Blowpipe
    50mm x 50mm x 200mm blowpipe stock
    50mm x 50mm x 250mm bass stock
    60mm x 60mm x 400mm bass drone top
    50mm x 50mm x 350mm bass drone middle
    50mm x 50mm x 350mm bass drone bottom
    50mm x 50mm x 260mm tenor top
    50mm x 50mm x 260mm tenor top
    50mm x 50mm x 300mm tenor bottom
    50mm x 50mm x 300mm tenor bottom
    50mm x 50mm x 200mm tenor stock
    50mm x 50mm x 200mm tenor stock
    50mm x 50mm x 200mm chanter stock

    cheers.

Default brya ebenus/cocuswood for university research

I'm doing a wood resonance research project on woodwind instruments here at Georgetown University and would be very grateful for a good grade of cocus/brya ebenus. Check your messages box for contact details.
