    Thanks for everyone's input. I've leaned enough to confirm my earlier suspicions that Plan A could lead to trouble, hence the thread.

    I've decided to use solid timber, just have to decide what type. Something like this combination designed by a friend looks attractive with spray painted dividers and wooden shelves... www.flickr.com/photos/16869272@N05/

    Ok to knock this on the head. Laminex Industries has told me the following;-

    White satin board in the 2400 x 1200 format only is technically a HDF and is sold as a premium MDF. MDF has now become a generic word used to describe any product of this nature regardless of its density.
    Only the 2400 x 1200 x 18 size is the premium board, all other sizes are not due to the pressure required to manufacture it.
    I was referring to the premium board in all my previous comments. This what we use and recommend to all our clients.

    I hope this settles this issue

    All the satin 18mm I've worked with was from a different manufacturer and/or cut from 3600x1800 sheets.

    Sorry for any upset caused by my posts, glad we've worked out what's what.
