Yeah, I'll have to look up the recipe for the drink "Fire Engine" - I have seen the results (in Blake as a tyke). S'a bit like pulling the cord on a top......

Congratulations Brett!
Brett,
Congratulations on the new bub, AND the table! When we were chatting to you, Shane and Fletty at Kyneton, ( and what a pleasure that was!), I did no realise the table or the grand daughter, were so close to frution.
Well done to all.
Cheers
Redbog, (Harry).

Do not be fooled. The change table makes no difference to their features or their personality whatsoever. Now red cordial - thats the ticket.

I was thinking a little more along the line of changing nappies. I well remember about four years of them (not my own. I can't remember past last week). Perhaps they would have been a little less distasteful (no I didn't ) if I had had one of Brett's tables.

Wow, someone is going to be more than thrilled with such a beautiful table. The weekend at Sturt was great.
Just a comment re the price and comparison with other products. It is always good firstly to try a product as it may, or may not be better than the one you use. Whilst advice is always good, it is even better from those that use it. I cannot say anything re Aussie oil as I did not find the ingredient list. An 0.25 bottle does allow one to cover up to 4 sq mts all coats. For an independently certified food/toy safe product, heat resistant t 50 degrees, based on renewable raw materials, that is no nasties and highlights the feature as above, I do not find it too expensive at all, especially when one considers the amount of time ad money spent on timber and finishing a piece. plus, plus, plus..but then again, I am a bit biasedLivos Australia

Yeah, that's a fair call Angela. I have some more tests that I want to do with it - such as thinning it by around 25% for hard burnishing. Not sure if you read an earlier post, but I found it polymerised a little too quickly under the sander and I suspect thinning it will allow me to finish the process without getting the skid marks and traction.
I also want to test it properly under red wine - leave it for a week before putting the wine on it.

Brett
I wondered if you had considered (or rejected) Organoil's hard burnishing oil product. It's big attraction is the the natural aspect of the product without the usual nasties. This is a link and at the top of the page you can see a further link to the recommended procedure using an orbital sander or lathe (the latter I appreciate is not entirely suitable for your table ) :

No Paul, that's yet another one I haven't tried as yet.
I was unimpressed with their Danish Oil - it napped up the timber where the Rustins DO did not.

Have a look at the link below, it ma give you a different perspective on application. This was how Neil Scobie (rip) used the oil.

Some do thin the product so worth a try. Whilst it may be easier to use, remember too it is diluting the product. If it leaves marks, are you removing enough excess? It does take longer to harden and cure so I would wait 4 weeks to test, but that does not mean you cannot use the surface. Also remember, the cleaning is important. Remember, if useing detergents, they are to break own grease so will break down a natural coating....but then again, it would certainly be easy to rejuvenate. Use a ph cleaner..mild and effective.
Here is what he has to say re the testing of the Livos oils https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kovyqJA0-rgLivos Australia

So back to the table today, sanded off with 800 then straight to 4000. Oh man that feels so much better!
I put another coat of HMWOP on and I made sure I gave it a good shake up this time. Pretty warm weather still (down there) and it felt like it would be dry tomorrow at the latest. I was nearly tempted to put another coat on before I left but I decided to wait.....until next time I can cuddle Nixie (a Water Sprite in German Folklore...and she's a Pisces....from a water birth.....)
Nixie and Pappy.jpeg
Now y'all might think I don't know how to hold a baby but the pillow was doing the work and my hand was just caressing her to sleep.
Looks a silly expression, but Son said "Dad!" so I looked at him. Just shows Pappy besotted with Nixie
What is absolutely remarkable is that Son showed me a pic of him (that I took in 1989) at the same age - 2 weeks. I was looking at the same baby!

So we're sitting around chewing the fat, and DIL says "Hey, ah, would you be able to make a TV table to match the Dining Table? We'd be happy to pay you for it."
"Funny you should mention that, because at fletty's place there is actually the fourth matching board. It didn't fit into the table design because it would have stood out too much and wouldn't have looked balanced." (and it's perfect width and length for the design that they have seen and liked).
So it would appear that my first commission (although for materials cost only of course) will be from a repeat customer! DIL's father (aka Son's FIL) wants to know where the timber came from. I don't know him too well, but it would seem he's a shed type, and useful (at a minimum) with tools.
Took the opportunity to rub it in a bit more about the finish on the Ikea Fright-thing. Might have to take the sander down and fix up just one of the two doors - maybe fix the other door in a few months.

I just caught up on the thread. Congratulations Brett.
The timing is going to make that table extra special.
Can you do it again though? If they have another child you need to make something else and make sure it's delivered - complete with a finish that has Linseed oil in it - the day of the birth
