| | Well the frame is assembled. I'm not very happy with the through tennons. Because I didn't leave enough meat in the top mortices I had problems with the top breaking out and I couldn't wedge the tennon enough to close the gap at the bottom. Not without blowing the top out completely. Lesson learnt.
It's not as bad as it sounds. It is solid and will never come apart and I should be able to clean the joint up with a small wedge of matching timber to close the gap. It's only 1 or 2 mm.
I sat the top on and it looks good. Hope to wrap this up soon as I have been given another job to do by the boss. A CD and DVD storage/display unit, about 8' long x 3' high. (Yes we have a lot of DVDs) |

| | Just a quick update.
Shed time has been a bit lacking but I did manage to sand and finish the frame
A home brew, wipe on mix of BLO, Turps and Poly. I experimented a bit on scraps and am really happy with how it has come up. I think I will be using this mix on lots of stuff in the future. Goes on really smoothly, very little odour and touch dry in an hour or so.
Four coats with a light sand of 600 grit in between. |

| | Some nice tight looking joints there Tony, nice work. I'd call that mix a Danish. Did a slightly different one the other day, wanted it to look like it wasn't there. Almost half BLO, Chinawood Oil and wipe on poly, got sucked straight in and dried almost instantly. Not what you need here though, just chatting |

| | The mix was almost equal parts but I added a dash more poly to try and increase the "bashed by a 3 yr old with a chugington computer" rating. |

| | Yeah, it is nearly the right height for the monitor. Should have the monitor stand finished soon. And it is an old draw from a computer workstation | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
