| BIG STUFF This is specifically for those who make the bigger things. Furniture in general, tables, wall units... You know BIG stuff.
No pens, no little boxes, no little clocks, no little toys, etc.
If its big and you've made it or are working on it or intend to make it then here's a place especially for you. Show us your stuff. | | |

| | I wondered how you got that calous on your tounge Tony . We had a number 4 but I have since realised the Dad had never sharpened it in 20 years. You had to sit it on the timber and drive it along with the mallet.
Great project Nick, good to see the youngin havin a go. Please sharpen the #4 for him |

| | The No 4 was my dad's. Yep it needed work when I got it, replacement handles and a nice Hock blade and a good fettle. and I doubt the original blade would have cut anything even using a mallet.
And it's scary sharp

| | A bit of progress
I've cut the lining boards to size and given them a couple of coats of a teak stain/finish. Looks ok. Needs a light sand and one last coat.
Am now working without an apprentice as No 1 just had an appendectomy. Some people will do anything to get out of helping he's also not doing the wiping up . I spose it gave me a couple of days off lounging around hospital
In the meantime the top shelf has been cut to size. I've to rout a rebate for the lining boards - might get to it tomorrow if I'm lucky (and if this bloomin rain will let up)
Have also cut the shelves to size
Then need to attach the top and give everything a sand and apply some finish
I'll post some piccys tomorrow

| | Finished (well nearly ...) Ok
here it is with back screwed on. I pre finished the lining boards so if there was any contraction there would not be any light lines showing at the joins. bookcase_8589.jpg
and finally in his room, partially filled up bookcase_9819.jpg
But I've had a request for one more shelf
I thought 7 would be ample but ... wrong again
