"Captains" bed
So I have this grand idea of making two "matching" beds for my twin daughters.
They will have drawers/cupboards beneath and be raised but not as high as a bunkbed.
They will be located against a wall so the bed base will be mounted on heavy duty runners so that the bed can be made be accessing both sides of the bed.
The head and foot of the bed will be chunky and very substantial at around 30-40mm thick, the foot will have the foot holes to climb into bed as well as an access hole whi will be almost 50% of the foot (a bit hard to put into words) I'll try to draw something.
The head and foot won't be square and won't be regular.
I'm expecting to use Tassie oak, so far it's an idea but I'm hoping that there's someone out there who is between projects wasting good project time by reading this and can inspire me to make two pieces of art that act like furniture...

yeah some nice beds there but way off the mark for what I'm looking at doing
I'm looking at more of a slab type look more rustic, these will see them well into their teenage years.
I had considered building the drawers and cupboards as part of the frame but this will make it too big to move so I need to work out how to make the frame stable without too much visible bracing.

Ha Ha, fantastic idea making beds for your twin daughters, first off. How old are they now? Have you asked them what kind of beds they would like? Show them pics.
Do you think they will still be in the same room as teenagers? So many questions.
Its fun to build stuff for the kids but be sure to allow a lot of room for flexibility.
You are definitely a good Dad! Oh and remember a bed with drawers there is of course, the Bogey man
Just kidding, Oddjob1

The bogey man lives in the cupboard not in drawers...
The girls are 11 and they are likely to have separate rooms when we finish extending (we have to start that bit first). Rooms are mirror images like the girls (mirror twins) so yes I need to build in some flexibility.
This is another reason I don't want to build in the under drawers/cupboards
I'll have to be very subtle with questioning as i want them to be a surprise (or not a disappointment if I don't get it completed)
Now where do I find 8 sq metres of 30x60 mm (or 70mm) and T&G Tassie oak at a reasonable price (or is there anther wood I should consider. I intend to laminate the wood to make the ends, just about to look in the glue section to see what to use to glue it together...
