Question What sort of wood can I use outside to make...

    Hi!

I'll be honest I have no idea about timber and related stuff.

I want my hubby to make like a cabinet with 3 doors 1.8m x 1.1m x .4m, I want to have it outside under my fly over patio which gets wet with heavy rain and wind, in my cabinet I want to store towels for my pool and plates, cutlery, cups, table clothes etc for outdoor entertaining. On the top I will put the food that we serve up and since everyone will see it I want it to look nice. I can be pretty fussy which is why I sm researching timbers myself so I am equipped with knowledge when he starts making it and suggesting timbers

Since this is what I want I want a timber that is easy to work with, looks nice, comes up nice after the finish, can withstand the QLD weather, get wet, stay dry etc

Could anyone recommend a type/s of timber that could be used?

    Thank you for your help.

    N

Exterior grade plywood with a few good coats of paint over it is the cheap and simple solution.

Ironbark is almost indestructible, but its stupidly heavy and not cheap either. Redgum is another option, not as heavy but still not cheap.

Finish with a few coats of decking oil, you'll need to reapply it at least once a year depending on weather
