Cubby House Frame
I am about to build my son a Cubby House, i was wanting to know what sort of timber would be best to use for the frame. I was just going to make the frame for each wall then attach them all together. The Cubby is going to be 2800mm x 2000mm. I a have a heap of hardwood recycled weatherboards for the outside of the cubby but not sure what size timber i should use for the timber. Should i do it in treated pine etc?????

Looks like a decent sized cubby. You may as well go for 70x35mm pine to give you something decent to nail into and to attach a roof to - IMHO.
As for treated pine . . . probably a bit of overkill if the frame is off the ground and well protected from the weather by the cladding and roof?
Have fun and don't forget to post some pictures.
Cheers

70x35 is the way to go. I did mine in panels, but hadn't considered how heavy hardwood frames with hardwood weatherboard would be... You don't need treated pine unless its sitting on the ground
Anyway, I'd still do it the same way, all painted up, just get a few big blokes to lift them up, bolt them together, and its all finished in a hour. I did it that way cos we're moving in the next year or two and I want to take it with us.Cheers, Richard

Thanks for the replies, it is going to be off the ground, i am going to sit it on treated pine posts, i was going to do it on brick piers but after building my deck not that keen to do any more bricklaying.

with mine, i cut the pine studs in half ending up with 35mmx35mm wall studs, top and bottom plates, cuts down on costs and weight.

You have all got this completly wrong!
Kids should build the cubby themselves. Then perhaps rebuild it as many times as they like to get it just right. I came on the remains of one in the bush while walking the dog last week so some kids still do it themselves. Made of bent branches, like a bushmans hut.
Regards
John

And they wouldn't know which tools absolutely have to be bought to build the cubby house, would they?
Cheers, Richard
