    Default legs

Thanks everyone for the comments, the pressure's now on to make it live up to expectation

It's on to the legs and aprons..
The legs required a bit of sketch/plan to ascertain a reasonable shape, so after a few scratchings with the pencil (and much rubbing out) I settled on the green outline, it's surprising the difference to the overall shape smaller or larger curves makes, too fat theretoo thinsloping in, from the drawing I made a template, I had a suitable bit of (pine) for a test blank, from there it's markout leg blank, rough cut on BS and give a bit of a rough sand and I think it looks ok, I went for the leg curveyness to match the top

    What do you reckon?

    Question

Hmmmmmmmm. Don't kow.To me that looks too much like a cabriole leg and IMHO doesn't really suit the top.

Looking really good there Claw, i particularly like the thickness & curves of the legs.
What sort of resin did you use to fill the cracks in the top? I've tried automotive car bog died black which sort of came up ok but i wasn't quite happy with the color.

    Default dry assembly

You know how it is, all the bits neeeaarrllllyyy finished but not quite but ya just got to put it together end of play today I dry assembled it to see how it's gonna look. I did have that thought like Artme, Are they the right shape curve..anyway see what you think....
    Attachment 170618Attachment 170619

I had some lumps that had knots in them, with a bit of luck this works in your favour as you can cut curves like this and the grain flows with the curve
    Attachment 170620

I think I'll have to trim a fair bit off this end or not
    Attachment 170621

I've got ahead of myself a little, here's a couple of the bandsaw setup for cutting the waste off for the tenons...

I'm using the woodslicer from Highland woodworking, very nice blade, quiet, smooth finish, thin kerf, very suitable for the medium density timbers.

Rat... I used west system epoxy without the filler, I wanted to keep it thin so it flows into all the nooks and crannies, the downside tho is that if the tape doesn't hold and you haven't mixed up enufff, I did tho, I tinted it with ummmm tint I'd have to look but is compatable with west system, I have all the primary colours and black and white

Beautiful work, PJT, and very interesting to see how you've gone about things.

If cabriole legs are based on deer's legs those legs are more like a bulldog.

    Great WIP.

The base has a period look while the top is contemporary .

Looks fantastic Pete, wouldn't trim any off. The legs are a great mango shape, they have a slight plump generous feel to them. Great job.
Thats fine RT, I'll take credit for it

    Arrow

I actually like the legs, and I like the top.

I'm still not sure that they go together well enough.

For me, slab legs would have been the go. Just apersonal foible of mine.

Progress continues.....I cut the button slots in the aprons, put a small roundover on the curves (aprons and top) more sanding, filling holes, even more sanding, the style council suggested I take the pointy bit off the corners, which I did, more sanding etc...slapped a bit of thinned LO on the underside of the top....
    Attachment 170767Attachment 170768Attachment 170771

When I cut one of the long aprons I just missed out on cutting out a fault a bit of bark inclusion or nail which seem to cause the brown spots, I fixed with some supa glue and sawdust....
