    Default Desk and bookcase

One desk and one bookcase in American Cherry for the Mormon Church to go to Samoa. I don't get to do the delivery, which is a shame because I could really do with a holiday after spending 150 hours on this

The sides, backs and drawer internals are veneer for stability and to help keep costs down, the rest is all solid timber. All Blum hardware with integrated soft-close on the hinges and runners, the shelf supports are brass with brass sleeved holes (that was a LOT of sleeves to tap in)

    IMAG2548.jpgIMAG2553.jpg

The sides and drawer faces were all CNC routed with a 10mm groove to have a 9.9mm bead pressed in (I love digital machinery).

    IMAG2549.jpg

Integrated LED lighting in the desk. The switch is on the right side of the drawer stack with wires run out the back to the power pack on top.

File drawer with solid brass rails

The door crosses were cut on the CNC in an over-thickness piece, leaving a few mm to be run through the sander to pop them out. This is a reject, I changed the order of operations afterwards to eliminate the breakout in the half-lap join. I would have liked to see glass in the doors instead of a panel, but I just make what I'm asked to

150mm worth of crown moulding, done in 3 pieces.

More pics to follow when it's back from the polisher.

That would be a job for my bucket list but you get to do it on a daily basis and get paid for it. Lucky man.

    Default Desk and bookcase

That's truly a beautiful piece, expertly crafted. I'd love to see the CNC in operation. My dream equipment is a CNC and laser cutter!
Cherry is a lovely wood and you have used it to great effect.
Did you also design these pieces?

No design work here, this client is VERY particular and always provides us with full details of what they want; we match mouldings as closely as possible from our cutter library, but everything else is by the book.

I don't have any footage of it running that I can share, but here's the beast:

Thanks for posting the "after finishing" photos.

Is the time period for finishing -- in this case nearly 6 weeks -- around normal for this type or scale of work from your employer? Or were there some complications?
