Nice Cabinet Graeme.Have you given thought to it possibly being a mobile unit? We know how our women folk like to rearrange the furniture from time to time!
I made one years ago out of Sheoak ,really heavy unit & hard to move about ,I regret not making it as a unit easier to move.

You are 100% correct that happy wife is all that matters.
I have started on a Country Hutch for my Daughter and will definitely be spraying it after receiving all the excellent info from yourself. I have no idea how long it will take to build as so many distractions come along the way but I will keep taking photos as the build progresses.

    Cheers

    Graeme,

I don't know if you are aware that lacquer is available in colours, including white. It is a wonderful finish, with all the benefits of clear lacquer. I made an el cheapo chest of drawers to sit in a built in robe a while ago. It was made primarily of MDF and was finished in white lacquer ... and looked fine.

A while ago I saw a dining table with Vic Ash/Tas Oak legs and aprons, and an MDF top finished in white lacquer. It had a lovely rustic feel about it.

I don't use it very often, but when something needs to be white, generally I prefer lacquer to paint. In any event, it's nice to know what options we have.

Hi John. Yes since we moved here 20 years ago I think we have re-arranged the dining living area about 5 times and I said I won't be moving it again as this unit is too heavy.Thankfully the wife was quite happy at its final resting place. I also found that it takes a bit of setting up as a couple of millimetres in uneven floor will cause problems with doors opening and closing hence as you can see the centre support under the lower shelf at the front and there is also one which you can't see in the centre at the rear. Thank you for your suggestion.

Hi John, Well I never new that Lacquer comes in colours. That is amazing. Next time I have to paint something I will look into using it.
    Thank you for the info.
