European Hinge Location
I have inherited a collection of Euro Hinges of various brands. Any ideas on how to determine the inset for the cup section of the hinge. I have seen 4mm, 5mm and even 3mm suggested for various brands. The instructions for the hinges are missing and the brand is not easy to locate. Is the difference important? Is 3mm significantly different for a hinge that requires 5mm?
Thanks

Most brands have spec sheets available, normally depends on what the offset is

Thanks China.
But as I said in the OP the brands are not easy to determine so finding the specs for each hinge is a challenge without the brand.

Kinda; it affects how much of the cabinet side is covered by the door when closed, but there's usually 2-3mm of adjustment so you can probably tweak it after assembly.
Attach the hinge to the mounting plate and measure from the back of the plate to the cup, that should give you an idea of which ones are the same as each other, then compare it to a known hinge and you might be able to work out the actual inset (or at least get close enough).

In the time it takes to try and research this, you could simply make a mock-up door and side panel to check it empirically. Start with 4mm and adjust from there if it's not right.

I was hoping there might be a place on the hinge that I could measure, rather than the trying the brute force approach of building 2,3,4,5 spaces and assembling the test.

If you’re talking about standard overlay hinges then the cup centre needs to be 21.5mm/22mm from the edge for 35mm cups. It’s the same for all brands as they are all made to conform with System 32. If I’m reading your query correctly your measurements of 3,4 & 5mm are referring to the distance between the edge of the panel and the edge of the hole; this depends on also using the correct sized boring bit. As already stated by others the range of adjustment is quite large so a 4mm gap will work for them all.
Here is some info from Hettich, if you want to research further look up Blum and Hafele brands as well. About the only thing that varies between the manufacturers is the location of the securing screws that hold the cup section down; these are entirely arbitrary.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

I got into trouble with a set of doors that I couldn't adjust the gap between right on because I thought they were all the same, they aren't.
Different brands vary from 1/8" to 3/16", just like the cup depth varies.
On doors that stand alone there's enough adjustment that it doesn't make much difference.
