Default Was a gate post, now a seat.

Grey Gum Seat (2).jpgI recently removed my old gate post(s), that I put in over 20years ago.
Being reluctant to make it into firewood, I thought that I'd make a seat out of it.(I seem to need a seat more these days also)
It's Grey Gum, and pretty hard. 2.2m x 700mm. 1.2t. What do you think?

Bloody hell, how big was the gate???

Nice use for the wood a second time around, let's see if this will go another 20 years!

    Beautiful colour as well.

    The gate was nearly 6m.
The tree was originally over hanging a friends house, and as my chainsaw was bigger than his, I got the job. (and the tree).
In cutting down the tree we managed to avoid the house, but unfortunately, took out his 'Hills Hoist' (with washing)
I cut most of the tree into fence posts but by the time I got to the 'big' end, the wood seemed to be getting harder and gnarlier with the grain not co-operating to 'pop' out fence posts. Yes, by the end of that day, the trunk was looking much more like a Gate post than firewood.
Even though it had 6m gate hanging off it, the post never moved, even when it was hit by a small truck, that ripped off the gate, it still never moved. My new gate and posts are much more ordinary and I don't think I'll be talking about them in 20yrs. I'm pretty sure though that the seat will be around for a lot longer than the new posts. The White Ants had been 'having a go' but they had given up after an inch or two.
BTW, it had been raining when I took the photo. When dry the colour is more orange. (The wood is still bloody hard though)

Good bit of recycle work there.
I assume you had some mechanical help to move it.

Yes I did. I had more mechanical help pulling the post(s) out and making the seat than 20yrs ago when I dug the hole and stood it up.
