Geoffrey Hannah
This poor guy really needs to get a life!
Geoffrey Hannah crafted this jewellery cabinet from 22 different types of timber. - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I just saw the 10 minute video showing him describing it on ABC 24 TV at 12:20 pm. I'm sure it will be repeated this afternoon or be available on the ABC TV iView website. It's truly stunning and not too shabby.
Cheers"Come sit down beside me" I said to myself, and although it didn't make sense,
I held my own hand as a small sign of trust, and together I sat on the fence.

If anyone hasn't seen it, this cabinet is on display at Bungendore gallery (NSW) until November 20th.
It is very impressive to look at more closely, although when it was on display in Sydney we had the added benefit of Geoff doing talks to show the hidden details and answer questions.
I did consider buying it, but too gaudy for my place....

How much jewellery does Mrs Hannah have, that required poor Geoffrey to construct a cabinet so large???

Considering the tolerances on various parts of the cabinet, and the wide range of materials used, I'm just amazed that it has worked/held together over the range of places it has been exhibited. It was made in Lismore, which would have very different temperatures/humidity to Sydney, Bungendore, etc. It does break down into several lesser components for transport.
This cabinet is definitely NOT for people with Alzheimers - you'd never find anything ever again.

Amazing craftsmanship indeed. This cabinet was featured ont the cover of an early edition
of "Wood Australia" and there was an interesting article on the making of it in the magazine.
Geoffry started out as an apprentice carpenter/ builder in Lismore with my next door neighbour's
father. He became interested in this type of work and quit to follow his passion.
While I absolutely admire this level of craftsmanship it is not exactly to my tastes. I find it too
involved and overpowering - Much like Rococo and Baroque art that is een in so many European
churches and cathedrals.

Surprising that cafe doesn't look much from the street but walk inside and it is large, always seems full of people and busy.

Is it still on display at Bungendore? I thought it was gone on the 20th of November?
If it's still there for a few more weeks I might be able to go see it.
