Default George nakashima inspired jarrah slabs dining table

I always wanted a jarrah slabs dining table, a high figure one, then. Then I found this, originally 6M I cut it down to 5.5M to legally fit in my trailer. Full of burl in the slabs, unfortunately too big to be handle so have to cut in half and rejoin it. This slabs feature George nakashima leg design, sizes are 5500x1400-1850x 65. Legs post made from 150x150 lace tuart post I salvage years ago,

    Very impressive.

Looks heavy. Did you have to reinforce the floor?

It's concrete floor with glued floorboard so it's ok . It's really heavy everything assemble in house, hopeful ill live in this house long enough so I don't have to move it

I don't mean to up set you but the leg design does absolutely nothing for me, if any thing it looks like a tripping hazard.

Wow, big is an understatement. I quite like the verticals of the legs and may steal the idea but I would probably look at the "feet" to see if they can be toned down to make it feel a bit more balanced. I like the assemble in house option, I did the same with the jarrah slab island bench I did. The joinery looks interesting, have you got any closeups or as built photos to show the detail?

The leg design is from George nakashima of course I have to Increase the overall size to hold the big slab up. His design often feature joints' skills. Tripping will not be considerable as the width is only 1150. Which mean the top is wider than the leg. You will be tripped if you're walking like a duck. So far no one tripped yet after having a few party, so I think it's still pretty good

I was quite worry about the balance that's why the lower supports is extremely important. The main central beams is 180 x 100 structural quality old growth jarrah. All the joints is so fit that close to no movement while glue is still wet. (I'm using epoxy glue). Will try to take some photos tomorrow if I can .. Cheers

A very impressive piece of work AND the background suggests you are building the house at the same time?
I once read an article about Nakashima that said he had one slab that he looked at every day for nearly 20 years before he decided what to do with it! That can happen when you wait for the timber to tell you!
can we have a close up pic of the leg to foot joint? It looks like wedged tenons?
    thanks for sharing,

That is one solid looking table.
All you need now is about 20 vikings, a few barrels of grog and a few roast boar. The table will still be standing in the morning.
