Im building the misus a dressing table out of jarrah flooring . I laminated the jarrah together cut it to size and edged it sanded it flat and smooth beautiful looked a million bucks . Then i built the carcass to the cabinet morticed and tennoned all the pieces together .then sat the top on the carcass This is where the problem now comes in and any advice given will be greatly received . Like a dill i didnt screw the top down to the carcass and now it has warped and i cant pull it back . the top has hunched up approximately 7mm in the middle even bending the end edging that is 40 x 32 mm anyone got any ideas on how i can straighten this problem out

Hi Rob, could actualy be your ends that are causing the problem, you have to be able to let the evil spirits out. The planks will want to expand when the humidity goes up but if you have anchored the ends and are not letting it expand (to let out the evil spirits) it will bow up and try and bust out. If you put bread board ends on you need to check Dans table thread and see what he has done, it is a good example.

A little more of a clue on 'Dans table thread'? I wouldn't mind a look at that.

I am at "work". Hard at it as you can see.

I'm not stalking you, honest. Where's the print photo?...chop chop.

Sorry for the hijack Rob, it's Claw's fault.

You could try just leaving it on a perfectly flat surface to see if it will regain its original shape but I am inclined to agree with the comments above and feel it is probably the ends that is causing the problem. Had you screwed it down to the carcass, you would have probably still had problems with it. There is a tremendous amount of pressure exerted on the timber trying to sort itself out and it has to be allowed some margin of room to do its thing. Breadboard ends should fix your problem and attach the top to the carcass with buttons but in my opinion breadboard ends are not aesthetically pleasing but that's just my personal opinion.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John
