    Default Working with jarrah

Just thought I'd display the first piece of jarrah furniture I've made. It was all cut out of jarrah joists my friend gave me. I used a MortisePal jig for all the joints (slats and table frame) with an 8mm bit. The top originally came out twisted and so did the frame, but it somehow cancelled each other out in the end (lucky). I'm not sure I'd make another one because the milling (thicknessing / planing) took so long, especially considering the outfeed roller on the combo thicknesser has trouble. All I need now is a domino jointer to speed things up a bit!

    Hi David,

Sometimes (mostly) when you mill down a piece of timber it will initially twist and warp because the newly exposed face does not have the same moisture content as the other. Whenever I mill down I will leave the boards a day or two to reacclimatise.

I have had occasions when resawing that the stresses in the timber are released giving a bowing that jammed a 14 inch bandsaw.

Very nice work .. love the finish.

    Regards

    Rob
