Jarrah Dining Table
Hi guys and girls
I'm new to this site but wanted to post some pic of my dining table im slowly making and want to get some feed back on what others think. I've got a few pics of work in progress from once the timber machined to the first coat.
I milled this timber myself and had it sitting in the back yard for about 2 years, not really knowing what to make but this is whats come together so far.
Cheers Winnie

Eagerly watching to see the base you will use.

That's a good stack of timber sitting in the background.
Now it appears to me in the second and third to last pictures that the top is bowed and when I look closely at two of the pictures where the timber is clamped up it appears the growth rings of the two middle boards and the first adjoining board are all running in the same direction ? Yes? / No?

Curved and tappered ends
Hi.
The table tops not bowing. I've curved the ends of the table. Just looks like it's bowed I'll get a couple of pics to show ya. And yes the two middle boards are running the same way, it was a 750 wide slab but cut it in half to plane and thickness easyier. I was going to plane it down by hand but because i was making it wider there was going to be other joins so what's 1 more but you can't really tell there's a join unless you look at the wip pictures. And with the 2 out side boards both sides are the top half of the log and the grain is pretty straight so it did matter what way I put them up. So I tryed to get a good colour match on the top.
Hope that helps.
Yer the stack of timber behind is redgum/marri. Really gummy but. Wasn't mine but the guy who owned the shed let me make a coffee table out of it. So I'll try and post a couple of pics to show you what the timber is like.
Cheers Winnie.

Size
The table is 55mm thick. 1.3 wide and 3.2 long. So it's a 10 to 12 seater. Looks small in a big work shop but will be huge in a house.
The base I'm looking at is a I design with one main rail.I'll post some pics when I have the base together.
Finish will be with a 2 pack lacquer. Beckers.

Hi winnie,
One hell of a table all right. Won't be flipping that sucker over on your own at 55mm thick.
Keep us posted, looking forward to all the photos.
Cheers

Nice slab, also keen to see what base you decide to go with
Live life to the fullest, you have to go big and do everything with your all or why do it at all?

Hey mate that's one hell of a table top. Awesome. Very much like the curved ends. The bevel is a nice touch.
Keen to see the base also. I think a traditional four leg setup would work against it so what you've got planned sounds beaut.
Was the finish wet when you took those photos? No offence but it looks horribly plasticy!

Great table
Nice table it looks great I was wondering what you used to fill in the gaps in the top when you were glueing up. I also have to say you own a very nice shop.
