    Default Jarrah Slab Table

    Hi Fella`s,

Just found this nice slab of Curly Jarrah.

    It`s 2.1m x 1m x 50mm so pretty ideal for a table top.

Have made a start on grinding the edges and gave it a sanding with the ROS with a 60g. Next up i`ll fill the cracks and voids with epoxy and get some legs organised too.
I`ll probably sand down to 400g and then start spraying some 2 pac cat laquer, i`ve been using some 40% gloss and i think it should work well on this table hopefully.
Not too sure what style of leg i`ll go with, i`m open to any suggestions you guys might have.

Will take some progress pics as i go along, i wont be doing this too quickly as i`ll just be getting into it every so often when time permits.

Shown here with some metho on top after the 60g sanding.

    cheers
    Brad

    Hi Harlan,

Got this one at the Perth Wood show yesterday, the guys at Djarilmarri timber had this on display.

I`m still debating on how to do the legs, LOL, there are too many choices and it`s tough to decide.

Just keep the legs simple, maybe use another slab, keep the focus on the top.

Saw a few slabs i wanted but they were out of my price range so got a smaller one from the chainsaw milling outside and a burl and some tools instead.

Hope to see it coming along nicely!

LOL, now it may be worth more $$ if used for veneers too

Made some good progress in the last 2 days, i`ve been debating what to do with the legs but seeing as tho i had some nice matching curly jarrah slabs here, figured they`d work well on the legs also.

This is a pretty simple design, i borrowed the idea of epoxying bolts into the middle slab from MrK here on the forum. Mark definately knows his stuff so i figure if he thinks it`s a good idea then it`s worth doing.

I`ve used the end cap to cover the bolt holes, it`s just held in there with magnets. Tried to make it look as if the beam runs through the legs.

    Another update here,

Nearly finished filling with epoxy filler, this stuff was a lot more liquified that i`d have hoped, ran everywhere except where it was supposed to go

Had everything sealed up with masking tape and some bluetack so it didnt make too much of a mess thankfully.

Looks good. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. My experience with jarrah tells me this is going to be a solid and heavy project.

I think you're done well with the base. I often find the legs of slab tables don't work, often too delicate, but not in this case.

What brand epoxy did you use?

How do you plan to finish?

    Cheers mate

I had a hard time deciding on the base so i`m hoping this style will look ok.
I wanted to make the base look a little more formal rather than go with the natural edge base, figured i have enough natural edge on the slab top, fingers crossed it`ll look ok.

The epoxy is from Fibreglass & Resin Sales in Perth, it`s their FR251, i think the weather here may not have helped with the slow set time also. It sets crystal clear tho and looks to be a great product.

Will have more pics as i progress
