I think they are all blackbutt (rejected grade), except the the T-bars and the t-bar support.

Nice job Wongo, does look more like Blue Gum than Blackbutt, but then it depends which side of the hill it's from, nice proportions too. Commission or for your family?

    Thanks Ray.

The gaps should be OK. I tested it with a mattress and I didn't see a problem. The T-bars are very strong. Just 1 bar can support my body weight without bending.

Scott being a kids bed weight should not be a problem its the jumping castle theory if the spring is sitting centre to the support that means the spring will flex to the side and sag both top and bottom of course this happens of time not over night. Just sitting will also cause that.

Thats if a sprung mattress is used if its a new fangled super foam one sagging is going to happen with in days.
a simple fix a full length board

Full length boards are inclined to cause the underside of a mattress to sweat.

    100mm between slats is acceptable.

Thanks Ray, that is something I didn't think about. What about a layer of 5mm MDF in between the bars and mattress. Do you think that would work?

I will check the mattress again tonight.

I agree Bob with the full board length have seen it often especially in caravan's and accommodation where mainly chip or MDF has been used and its rotten, mouldy etc matress need to breath.
