King size Blackwood bed
Hey guys, this one is almost over sorry but have taken a few pics along the way.
King size Tassie and Northern Blackwood bed. The Northern Blackwood is in the head and the Tassie is in the side rails. I got it all togehter today but have stripped it back down to put the finish on. Cabots satin CFP with a little added terebine to push things along. Gets delivered on Friday arvo I have done a few other little projects but nothing very exciting.

Very nice! That's a lovely big piece of Northern Blackwood you've got up there. Would love to see it in situ. And doesn't that Tassie stuff really sing with the satin on it. Are those rails just butted to the post with dowels? Is that enough (please note that I don't know what I am talking about)? I suppose there'd be less tilting pressure on it with the posts so short. It looks really awesome all the same!

Hi Matt, initaly the legs are just doweled and glued (which would be enough anyway) to the rails but then the footerboard and the head board plus some of the slats get screwed to them as well so it all gets reinforced in the long run. And yes being so short (220mm) they won't move much even under excited conditions
I'll be turning the head over and putting a coat on the front which should realy light it up too. I don't think the Northern has as much depth/chatoyancy as the Tassie.

Just what I need to get me enthused about building some furninture for my new abode - all I have so far is a bed (cheap maple stained pine) and a kitchen table (even cheaper unstained pine).

Hi Claw,
Gee mate, thought I had nodded off in my chair there for a moment and missed all the action. One very solid piece. Really like the Blackwood headboard, have not seen a natural edge headboard till now.
Am guessing that the headboard will stay off for transport and fixed, (screwed on) when on site?
Keep us posted, (sitting back and watching, and maintaining fluid levels).
Cheers
Pops

Hi Guys, bit like the duck on the river here, looks calm on the top but paddling flat out under the water. Thats right SS a blank canvas go crazy mate.
Tony, Tony, what was that, hope your other half doesn't look at the forum.
Yeh Pops, the whole thing will be transported in pieces, it has to go upstairs so the bigest piece is the headboard. Stay tuned sneeze and you may miss a project. Artme, the bottom piece of the headboard is one of the nicest pieces of timber I've seen, its a shame but it will be hidden for the rest of it's days. I'll post a photo of it later.

Still on the Lee, previously unseen items, is the Lee Reloader a magazine of finely honed A2 blades that you can change on the fly and not stop to resharpen?
Those were the droids I was looking for.
