Bet you're glad it's finished though.....

Yeah Greg, they worked out well.

There was enough q/s to allow me to make all the panels with the stunning figure, or at worst, just off the quarter.

What the SO has done, though is create a bit of a dilemma with the floor, which still has to be done.
I had originally planned to go back to the natural Cypress Pine, but on reflection, that is going to be too much.

Leaves options of staying with (a much more attractive) vinyl, or else tiling over timber, which I am not keen on.

At this point the decision is deferred, until (well) after Xmas.

Still lots of SO left, so more cupboards in passage will be done, as well as other projects. Enjoy working with it.

    regards
    Alastair

    Some more pics:

View from the (adjacent ) rumpus room, showing the passage to the rest of the house in the background. A new SS fridge will replace the white monstrosity, in a “garage”, with more cupboards alongside. Next years’ project.
Fridge placement was the most controversial part of the design. In the end decided the “around-the-corner” was the best compromise, with the extended benchtop next to cooker to solve the “take-out-and-put-down” conflict. Will combine this with a left-opening fridge.

Detail of the "U" where the door through to the laundry used to be.

Standing in that spot, looking back to the pantries, and lit glassware cab, with door to dining room in background.

    Attachment 156589

And sink through to breakfast bar, with archway through to rumpus room on left. There was a lot of agonising over the design of this area, and I’m please with the result. Having the DW, (now replaced with SS), in the intersection means it doesn’t block off access when open, and glass cab, cutlery and crockery drawers, and teacup cupboard are all within one step, as is sink and bin. (under draining board to the left.

    Attachment 156590

Storage, with pull-out pantry, and large, lit plain pantry. Even SWMBO has not been able to fill this yet.

    Attachment 156591

Blind corner cupboards in the “U”, (both sides), with lazy-susan storage, and vege drawers

    Attachment 156594

The pot drawers to the left, above, as well as…..

    Attachment 156592

The wide cutlery and crockery drawers, all 50kg soft-close. I have also included clip-on Hettich soft closers on all cupboard doors.

    Attachment 156593

    And the breakfast nook.

Apart from trimmings, (painting, window blinds etc, the remaining to-do’s are the gable ends, (actually done last w/e, but no photos) and the floor, which is still subject to discussion.

Overall cost has been under $13k, including fridge,(to be delivered), cooker, hood, oven and DW, (donated by B-I-L)

I am clearing all construction residues this week, and will drop in a final couple of pics over Xmas.

    regards

Looks good. I am not really a big fan of timber kitchen cupboards but yours has come up well. The grain in the earlier photos looks like it will shine and has plenty of depth (just a bit more difficult to see in the later photos due to the light).

Personally I would have left the handles back in 1969 and gone with a small chrome knob to give a more contemporary look to match the oven, rangehood and cooktop. Not trying to be critical just offering an opinion.

    Cheers

    Stinky.

A (hopefully) final update with the last of the renovations included. I really don't see me doing any more on this, as we've reached the point of diminishing returns.

Still the painting to do, but I won't trouble the forum with that.

Final outcome, with new lighting, window blinds, floating floor and all gable ends complete.

    Attachment 195018

Hard to remember it started like this.

    Attachment 195025

Fridge garage completed, together with linen cupboards, and a phone nook. All the gubbins for phone, modem and router is internally routed, and resides in the top left cupboard.

    Attachment 195019

Back door/wall replaced with sliding timber and glass, opening onto patio area.

    Attachment 195020 Attachment 195021

Office and rumpus thrown into one, with bifold divider.

Now I can look forward to getting into my shed to do MY stuff again.

    Thanks Greg,

If you guys would like some of the pics for your website, let me know.

And on another topic, I'm making a guitar stand for my son's birthday, and might be looking for a board or so of blackwood, and/or Q Maple. I'll let you know once the design is complete.

    thanks

    Thanks Nick,

Yeah, mainly 'stuff', but have done the floating floor, sliding door, and room extension, so some big stuff in there. Just stuff left now, though; going to give renovation a rest for a while after this, and get on with guitar, furniture and turning.

    Hi Alastair,

Great work. Massive improvement. The 'boss' must be happy. All the finishing takes so long, and it is improvement incrementally but when all done it is so satisfying.

I have to do the same one day, build a kitchen and toss out teh door on tressels for a kitchen bench.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers

The trouble with the last fiddly bits is that you get them done and nobody really notices as they look like they've always been there
