I guess time is running out for all of us but, right at the moment, my main grief is the amount of that time that I can take as shed time. My daughter has been working on a contract that consumes most of her time and so GaGa () has been doing a LOT of babysitting lately but I’ve also been putting in a lot of time helping a young veteran with PTSD, work his way through a few civilian life tasks that would be both confusing and daunting to most. We had a major win last Saturday (unlike the Wallabies ) and so I was able to shout myself some shed time yesterday afternoon before babysitting started again ......


..... but I can’t show you because it was SECRET COMPARTMENT stuff?

However, normal broadcast should recommence later this week after babysitting and attending the formal handover of the WWI memorial box in regional NSW.
Mind you, I wouldn’t have it any other way
BTW Ian, just to add to the enjoyment of the ​SECRET COMPARTMENT work, I set myself the very pleasurable challenge of doing most of it with handtools and all of that with my much treasured WILKUT tools!

The trip to Trangie to hand over the memorial box went well, the ‘intensive’ babysitting has come to an end and my work with the veterans has reached a positive milestone so..... back on to the dresser!

Ive started a PhD course in Blum catalogue reading and KingSlide adjustment techniques after getting this far this morning...

One of the drawer fronts and the cabinet door are only propped in place while I complete the PhD course. The drawer slides seem to have an adjustment for both the physical World dimensions and for those in time warps as well! The colour differences are mostly due to the ARC pieces being at different stages of finish. I’m one set of drawer slides short (my fault!) and can start and fit the cabinet doors after my PhD graduation. The tiles...

.... are still a few weeks away but aren’t holding me up ...... yet?
Im happy with progress with the only remaining unknowns being the detail of the tiled backing board and some of the SECRET COMPARTMENT work.

While waiting for the outstanding drawer slides and tiles, I started on the doors. Now, you mightn’t see the connection between the absence of tiles and the doors but it has caused a design crisis for me. When the design first came to me (in a dream!) it came with several options. The whole concept was that the doors and backing board would be changeable so that the cabinet could be Arts and Crafts or Art Nouveau in design. The different door designs to create this transformation were solid timber panel with distinct shadow line, geometric leadlight a la Greene and Greene or a carved timber grapevine over clear glass. Sanity eventually decreed that no-one would really want to transform the furniture after they had already decided on Arts and Crafts OR Art Nouveau?
So, I have done away with the transformative feature and settled on Arts and Crafts style only, largely because I can’t carve!
I was hoping that, with the tiles installed, the most sympathetic door design would become obvious. I know that others would draw it in Sketch-Up or even WAIT until the tiles arrived ...... but that’s not me?
This is where I am as of tonight...

.... and I have resawn the panels of red cedar to insert in to the door frames AND sketched up a suitable leadlight panel AS WELL. As a carry over from the transformation concept, the doors are all interchangeable so I COULD make the front doors leadlit and the side doors solid timber....... where’s those b****y tiles?

CAUTION; Eurofit
As noted above, I am using the excellent drawer slides manufactured by KingSlide and sold by Eurofit. Also, as noted above, I messed up my order by misreading their website and believing that they came in “packs of 2”. I therefore ordered a quantity of 2 believing that I would get 2 x 2. As you can guess, I ended up with only 2 sets and need another! I ordered another on 14/8 which was acknowledged by Eurofit on 15/8. I waited patiently until late last week and sent a polite chase-up email. Having received no reply, I rang them this morning to be told that “they no longer do retail sales” and so won’t be supplying and nor will they reply to my email! This very unprofessional approach to customers has left me in a difficult position and I will now need to search for another KingSlide or 3 of a different brand. IF they had told me at the time of acknowledgement I could probably already have an alternative.

That's a bit rubbish of them. Wilson & Bradley carry King Slide products - they could have the same slides you've already bought? I think Bunnings also stock some of their slides.
