The original sketch had the top of this cabinet overhanging by about 4 mm. However, during construction I lapsed into auto pilot and created an overhang of 20 mm. It looked like it was wearing a broad brimmed hat.
So, I pulled it off and cut it down as per the original sketch. Before and after pics below.

Awwww ... Franklin ...
Veneering is as easy as piddling in bed. Even I can do it. What's more, it is cheap to set up the necessary gear if you are using a vacuum bag. I am kinky for the book-leaf effect. There are eight book-matched veneers in this large coffee table and 12 in the door of the bedside table (see pics).
However, you are right about SWMBO. Brownie points all topped up since I made that cabinet and the new itsy bitsy coffee table.
