Excellent write-up Dom. Always enjoy reading your threads.
I've been told from a few furniture makers regularly using blackbutt that they use purely the Titebond original Aliphatic resin for their blackbutt glue ups. The important bit being that they rip or plane the surface directly before glueup. Most likely it was just that large temp / humidity swing you had but can't hurt to have options. I've used polyurethane in the past for blackbutt, though, without issue. Aside from cleanup.

A good read an an excellent result. Working in the heat is certainly a challenge, especially outdoor work constructing a pergola in your spare time!
You can have a well deserved rest now.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, much appreciated.
Last little addition to the benches were some acrylic feet to keep the end grain from sitting on any standing water. Also allows them to slide easier. Would have prefered to use polyurethane but only had acrylic.

Now completely done.

Thanks for the build info. Beautiful table and benches. I hope you don't mind me nicking a fair few ideas for later in the year. I've only had occasion to use Blackbutt once and it really is a beautiful timber.

Thanks. Yeah no worries, nick ideas to your heart's (black, thieving heart... Haha just joking ) content mate. Look forward to seeing what you build.
Yeah I do like Blackbutt. Just be aware it is extremely tough and seemingly abraisive - really makes a mess of my PMV11 blades pretty quickly.

Hi mate,
I haven't noticed any effect of the saws actually, although it must be having some effect I guess. Yes, it's the thin plate carcass saw; I really like it. I also have thin plate tapered dovetail and really really love it, along with a 0.015" thin plate dovetail from Bad Axe. I have a 0.018" dovetail and don't like it as much as the thin plate saws. I don't think you could be dissapointed with the LN tapered dovetail.
Cheers, Dom
