Some progress shots -

Got to try out the chisel mortiser. Really happy. Not effortless, but a nice time-saver for sure.

Making dowels is a time-sink. Need to get quicker at this. The dovetail centre brace joint also takes more time than I'd like and isn't strictly necessary. I could just do Dominos or something here.

Drawbored mortise and tenon joints. Pre-oil, then glue-up.

Draw-bored tenons on the top slats / breadboard as well - no glue, allowing expansion of the boards within the breadboard. Slots cut in the bottom of the boards to reduce cupping.
Not a challenging or exciting project, but I look forward to seeing what kind of efficiencies I can gain by batching out three. I'm hoping for less than 30 hours total / 10 hours per bench.
Cheers,
Dom

I like the clean, straight lines of this piece. Very nice work. You must be running out of space in your workshop. I'd like a morticer, and also a drum sander, but I don't think I've got enough space.
cheers,
ajw

Thanks AJW. Not very creative, but that was the design brief of SWMBO.
Yeah, it's getting a little crowded. I don't think I want to sacrifice the space a drum sander would require. I'll stick to hand planing and /or hand sanding.
Once I build my adjacent timber-frame single car garage I can move timber storage into the gable roof space which will free up space. I also plan to get rid of my current 2.4x1.2m bench and build a Roubo about 2.1m x 0.7m which will provide a bit more room to move.
Cheers, Dom

Last one. Just because I like this photo my partner took of my backyard work to date.

A great read and a great piece Dom. Just doing a bit of a read up on outdoor furniture for a potential future project. How are the table and benches holding up? and the cover
Cheers
