    Default QLD Maple Dining Table

Haven't really got much WIP pictures but here's the finished work

I had to bleach the wood due to the client wanting a more blonde timber after the wood was bought.

The only glue used was to join the top. The rest of the joints are dry. Pegged mortise and tenon joints from the frame, dovetailed bracing and floating dovetails to join the top to the frame. Finish was a blend of tung and boiled linseed oil, gum turpentine and poly. Waxed twice before delivery. Dimensions 2400x960x720.

    Wood from Boutique Timbers.

    Thumbs up

    Agree with.

I particularly like the clean simple lines of the piece.

your work is really very good, when I see the starting material and then view the finished work, again I'm amazed at the transformation.

    Thanks all.

The bleach was the A/B variety. I couldn't find an off the shelf product so had to get some sodium hydroxide and concentrated hydrogen peroxide. It was a bit difficult to control, but it worked out well!

Very nice. The underside profile on the top for a contemporary/non-traditional feel?

    Bold move, no glue!

Care to expand on the above quotation re fixing?

I found a progress picture of the frame during an early fitting before I included the peg holes in the legs, excuse the messy space. You can see where the floating dovetails would fit in for the top to join. The middle members of the frame are dovetailed to the long members.

Thanks Enak. It's a new system to me. I'm still not certain exactly how it works, but I'm guessing it means no screws are used at all.
