Default Making rolling shop carts for my L-Boxxes

Hi guys, if like me you have L-Boxxes or even Systainers then you've probably experienced the frustration of having to unclick all of the top ones to get to the one you need then restocking them then having to unclick them again and so on.

I got over it so I built myself the rolling carts that have made my life so much easier.

Here are some photos of the finished carts and link to the YouTube video that shows the build process.

    thanks for watching.

I can send you through some sketchup files if you would like plans. But they are very simple to make.
If you're in Sydney get the runners from trademaster joinery $5 ea if you buy 10 otherwise $8 each.

Went to Trademaster today to get a sheet of MDF 1200x2400x25 for a couple of workshop bench tops for the son.
Website quoted $44, this turned out to be for furniture quality, the chap at the sales desk said they had Raw MDF
for $33 a sheet which was the same quality you get from the Big Green Shed. Sold at that price including one cut.
Two bench tops at 600x1800 with 600x1200 to spare.

I enjoyed your video and will have to do something similar for a stack of systainers. The soundtrack was also quite cool.

I recently bought 605 x 3650 x 25 raw MDF from them for $17 / sheet. The fork driver made a mistake and we had the sheets loaded when I woke up he had given me 1200 wide instead of 600 so he swapped them for the correct size with no extra charge. I didn't fancy ripping 3.6 metre sheets in half even if I could pick them up which was doubtful.

Forgive me if this should be obvious but what's the difference between regular MDF and "furniture quality" stuff?

I've heard of Low density fiberboard (LDF) and hardboard / high density fiberboard (HDF) but never furniture quality.

    Thanks very much

He said it had a better surface finish, just had a look at google, try a search for "high quality mdf", there's a link to a UK workshop forum.

It's been a while, but I am now thinking about maybe possibly contemplating getting around to building my own carts inspired by your video.

Are the sketchup plans still available? Are there any changes that you would make if you were to build another one?

    Cheers

    Hi Andrew
Just send me an email to [email protected] and I'll reply with the plans.
They work really well so I'd leave them as they are. If anything maybe allowing for deeper drawers to help the lids of the boxes flip right back.
At the moment they teeter on the edge of closing by themselves.
