Steel and Camphor book shelves
Latest commission is comming together, steel and camphor book shelves 3m long 2.7m high. First pic is the 4 steel frames with lugs welded and a splash of primer. The next pic is the load of Camphor I picked up from Mal Ward thismorning and the last is after a few hours of trimming = 18 metres of shelving 400wide. Tomorrow will be running them through the thicknesser and trimming to final size.

Good upon you Claw!! The more we use that noxious weed for something really useful, the better.

Cheap and effective and my nose has never been so clear. When you run a 400 wide section through the thicknesser it just about lifts the top off your head. To b>ggered to take pics today by Sunday I think I should have it installed so will post more then.

Hi Greg, I use Mals grungy old boards for almost all of my work. Beneath that exteria of rustic grey grung, beats a heart of pure timber. Hope they are having a great time in T/land.

Very nice indeed. Like the mixing of materials (steel and wood), have plans running around in my head for a sideboard...
How did you finish the steel? Spray?

Thanks guys, Dale the primer was sprayed teh first coat of colour brushed, for thickness and then a light sand and a sprayed final coat. It was nice to use both steel and wood on the one project for a change. Will get some better photos in the next couple of days.

Have you used those cig satinchrome rods yet?
They do them down to 2mm which run off beautifully at as low as 40 amps. I've found them really good doing fine work where you can see beads in furniture. Stainless as well so you can even leave the welds exposed.

A very clean design nicely tailored to the space!
Veni, Vedi, Vicmarc. I came, I saw, I did a little woodturning.

Yes have used satinchrome, I used satincraft on this, just mild steel, make sure you have full penitration (easy with 2mm steel) then all ground back so you don't see the welds. Have a new pic with the selves loaded. I wll get some more with close ups of the timber and the welds.
