    Default Tallowood Slab Dining Table

Here's a thread for my Tallowood slab dining table, milled by my dad and I 3 years ago. The legs and rails have been planed and as of this morning, the top has been planed and are ready for building/finishing. Fingers crossed the link works, the pics are attached.

Not the best pics, but i'm sure i'll get a couple good ones once i start finishing and building.

Looks great Gordo but the top doesn't look like Tallowwood to me, looks more like Spotted Gum. Tallowwood is usually a yellowish colour.

It's probably the darkest tallow I've seen but the photos don't do it justice. You've only got to touch it to feel that tallowood waxiness. The original tree has been in the family history for 30+ years.

wow, so many questions regarding the sanding/finishing? and probably some real dumb ones, here goes:
    1. how wet do you make it when you "wet" the slab to raise the fibres
    2. sanding sealer????
    3. "marine grade, heat resistant polyurethane"?????
    4. it's be through a thickneser (planned), so what grade sand paper do i start at?

I tracked down a guy with a wide enough thicknesser and he ran it through taking the slight cup out of one end. Which was great until we had these hot days in northern NSW and the slab cupped from the heat.
