Thread: Tapering jig

Nice Jig Fumbler. I did a similar one for table legs . Not with a a ledge or clamps like yours though . It works well. I might try adding those on my next one . Thanks.

I put the clamps on for safety as I had actually glued up my 60deg pieces so it actually had a leg in the air, so to speak. Plus I didn't want any chance of movement or kickback. I saw a few on line and took bits from a few designs and purpose built this for 1 job. But I guess it will come in handy for another job one day.

They are great for table legs but need to be made long enough for 730 to 850 legs to fit in roughly and do side table as well as the larger dinning table in all widths or thicknesses of course. I used to make one off jigs for these . Each leg needed a new simple jig cut from a parallel strip of chipboard usually . I was doing so many different types of tapered legs though I found Id rarely use the simple ones twice, I was always tweaking design for improvements to style. For a one off odd thing I would still do the simple board type though if it was to odd for my new jig. My clamping system in the picture is the blocks that are adjustable which grab the ends of the leg. I was thinking of fitting a screw adjustment there to push one block along rather than move it and screw it back in place. And I have dreams of remaking it with more metal in it and a hook so it hooks over the fence of the saw to guide it along as well. They are a real handy time saver though .
