Waterfall end Furniture ... AV Unit, Filing Cabinet and Desk
Hi there.
Got a commission to make some mathcing furniture ... with Waterfall ends in Tas Oak
Here is how it's going
First the fie cabinet ... bevel cuts done on the table saw (drawer fronts are mock-ups only)

Next the AV Unit
This is 2300 long and 450 high ... local cabinet maker did the bevel cuts
Drawers yet to be fitted (there are two identical units being made)

Then there is the desk 2300 X 600
Local cabinet maker did the cuts ... huge sliding saw

I am learning a lot about finishing mitre joints like these .... takes a plane, a bit of sanding.
Finishes will be in waterbased poly
Thanks to those who offered to help me do the cuts in my last post .Help neded to do end bevel cut on 2300 X 600 Tas Oak TV Unit top
Regards
Rob

Some nice work there Tahlee the waterfall edges look great.
Just interested in how you joined the mitres.Did you use any dominoes or something similiar and did you use epoxy for the glue up ?
The work should pop with the finish applied.
cheers....Roy

Hi Roy
I used biscuits
To get the fits perfect I decided that I had to reference the biscuit slot from the face of the work This is because the slabs of timber (35mm thick to start with) were hand planed to get the face perfectly flat ... and as a consequence the pieces being joined were slightly different in thickness. Therefore, using the outer face of the work as a reference was the only way to perfectly align mitre and faces.
The DeWalt cutter I have uses a 45 degree plate which requires reference from the non-face side of the bevel cut. I needed a 135 degree plate to enable the front face to be the reference surface. After a bit of thought I made a bolt on adapter for the DeWalt that allowed me to then reference the front face.
If you have ever seen biscuit cutters being used for bevel cuts you will soon see how difficult it is to get accurate slots using the 45 degree plate.
Regards
Rob
