Whiskey Cabinet ... Glass costs 20 times the cost of the wood!!!
Just added new doors and shelves to whiskey cabinet I made last year with recycled timber from a big ol' TV cabinet I bought for $15.
Would have been a very low cost piece ... but for $293 for 16 X 4mm panels and 6 X 10mm shelves.
Regards

That came up nice.
Once you add glass into the mix it does adds up, but if you don't need the edges polished or laminated its not too bad
For that price its wouldn't be laminated glass?
All that timber from a $15 old cabinet, great work.
Cool pup by the way

I used secondhand glass from a recycler to keep my costs down. He cut down some sliding bookshelf doors for my shelves - quite strong.

I had friends in the Glazing trade, that told me that there is something like 300% mark up on glass, as to allow for breakage, waste fees etc.

$300 for 22 pieces of cut glass doesn't sound very expensive to me...

well if you have only spent $15 on the timber, you could say the glass was expensive.
I use toughen glass for my furniture, it is a little more $$$ but worth it, for Table Tops, lower sections of cabinets eta where kids may be able to break it.
I worked in a glazers for a little bit during my apprenticeship (The shop i worked at in my last year, had a glazing section as well) there is a bit of wastage, as its is easy to stuff up a bit of glass, but it not to sure about a 300% markup, seems a little extreme.

Very nice, but I think there might be too much weight on those glass shelves, so I'm willing to come down & help remove some of the contents.

Any glass below hip height should either be toughened or laminated in my view.
