White kids bed
Latest project, a revamp of a kids bed. The owner reckoned the wrought iron look was too girly for her new son and wanted it replaced with wooden bed ends, oh and sides while your at it, oh and can you do a drawer under it for his toys, oh and can I have it in white to match the other furniture
All pine construction - supplied by owner
tongue and groove boards floating in centre panels
domino joins used throughout.
original sprung slats retained for comfort.
side rails attached with mortised bed hangers (could not find a supplier in Aust!, had to order from Rockler)
drawer not attached, runs on sealed bearing wheels instead of castors.

Looks very proffessional .
Just the thing for a boy. I guess the the drawer runs on castors.
What fittings have you used to hold the slats?I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

I just did a sealed bearing with some bolts on it for the drawer rather than take up height or space in the drawer with castors. Had the added bonus of the wheels only rolling back and forth not every which way that castors do.
Got the idea from here -> Under bed storage drawers
The slats are in a slotted metal arrangement that was on the original bed which makes them curved and gives it some spring. I figured I'd leave them as is and hide it behind a side board.
