Cheers Chris it's slowly starting to look like a piece of furniture.

Owing to the shed being hot and the beach so lovely not much has been going on.Resawed some tassie oak and reglued for the drawer bottoms.
Firstly had to make some drawer slips from Qld Maple That was from the church pews Eddie had up for free,Thicknessed them to size and cut a 4mm rebate
with the plow plane then cut a 3 degree side with the fritz and fran,20190207_102650.jpg

Then a tounge was cut to go into the front of the drawer and then the sides to go into the rebate of the drawer slips. This was done with the a skew rebate plane.
Then the sides of the drawer slips were planed to fit into the drawers and the front tounge to fit into the drawer front rebate.I think I made that sound complicated.20190207_102650.jpg20190208_101801.jpg

And it should look like this from the back.20190208_084810.jpg
Still requiring final fitting but it's close.20190208_084757.jpg

Hopefully can get the rest sorted soon and make a decision on the handles.

    cheers.....Roy

    Hi Roy

I've been following alone. Excellent stuff!

I built a similar looking chest a couple of years ago. Mine had bowed fronts (in addition to the curved and tapering sides). These are the handles I used ...

The build is on this page. Go to "Lingerie Chest": Furniture

Thankyou for the kind words Derek if mine turns out half as nice as yours I will be a happy man.

Still fooling around with some handle ideas but the weather is to hot to be in the shed at the moment.Hopefully tomorrow will be kinder.

Leaning towards this type of handle. They will increase in width as they progress.Just trying to get the right the size.Have a few different types of
timber in mind once I get the right balance.Be making up a few different sets I reckon.20190212_115759.jpg20190212_115840.jpg

Roy, it is really evident that you have put a lot of thought into the small details. This is what separates average from superior work. Keep it up!

I think the handles fit well.

Between the chair and the beach I have managed to sneak a bit of time on the chest of drawers.Mainly thinking about the handles and what timber to use and the layout of them. Also managed to make the top and work out the chamfers after a bit of playing around. The handles will be Wenge and I have shaped them with a plane and just have to cut them to size and glue them on.20190223_120728.jpg

I have just placed the top on the carcass and am fairly happy with how it looks. There is a chamfer on the front as well to soften it.Also put one coat of oil on and it changes everything. Can't wait to see how the drawer fronts turn out.20190221_150527.jpg

Back to work on the chest again after being away.Scrapped the original handle design and opted for something a bit simpler but still in wenge.20190409_094247.jpg

After gluing the pulls in time to finally put some oil on the drawer fronts been waiting to do this for sometime.20190411_102601.jpg

Oh!!! I had secretly hoped you would change the handles for pulls (but would never be one of those ‘you should have done this’ people). In my opinion it lets the figure of the draw fronts do the talking. Those pulls are perfect - simple and honest. Love it

Lovely bit of work Roy (understatement of the month there probably). I thought the handles looked nice but the pulls are even better.
