Better than yesterdays work effort sitting around in Smogney drinking coffee with Nick. Had a few spare minutes between jobs and was passing by so called in and said gday. Thanks Nick, it was very nice to have a little breather inbetween all that traffic and seeing clients.
Don't forget, next time you're in beautiful Newcastle call in.

I forgot that yesterday was Pancake Day. I was ROOLLY sinful and ate two LAMINGTONS!!! Can we change Pancake Day to Lamington Day?
I would be talking the customer out of the stain job Claw. That QM is toooo good to for committing such a sacrilegious act upon it.

Lovely looking QLD maple - I've got some but only in 135mm wide.
What are you going to stain it with?Cheers, Richard

Hi Guys, tearing what little hair out I have left trying to make progress with this one, computers and children both going cheap at the moment.
So, picked up the channels for the legs, after a client request regarding layout I recut the natural edge on the second piece so its now a not so natural edge you have when you are having a natural edge And now its stained you woud be going very well to pick it. Stain is Black Japan, I have used it before on jobs like this, I like the way it is translucient and you can see more of the grain and feature than with other stains. Once I put some finish over it, it will still look amazing. I just dip a cloth pad in, rub in a circular motion untill there is good coverage over about a foot or so square and then buff it off with a clean cloth. So far so good. Another messy day tomorrow, I have to go and hang some light boxes for a friend in his dive shop.
Oh and photo 3 just for Waldo

Hi guys, edges will be smoothed with some emery paper, sharp corners filed off, the whole thing washed with turps and then painted with black hammertone.

CH if it was me I'd be pushing the point of shaping those legs so that the bottom was shaped back a bit. The thought of the upright edge of the C is just shear accident waiting to happen.
Small kids, old folks or even a laceration to a bare foot, knee or even a pet. In this case sorry customer is not right. Its your rep also.

Another great piece coming along nicely. The Black Japan gives it a Black Walnut look to my untrained eyes, it'd be interesting to see it in real life. Very glad to see that the grain is still visible.
The C section legs will give it an interesting look over all, do you know where it's going to be used? I can imagine an office must more easily than a sitting room.

Ray I will make sure they are not sharp, its 3mm black steel and with a few coats of hammertone it will be pushing 4mm they are also tucked under about 100 or more mm. I only had it all sitting together when I took the first photo. I think the legs are a little too high but the customer is always right( within reason)
The original photo I saw had hot rolled 6mm channel but the cost was too much for a 12m length and I didn't want to have to carry it up any stairs.
I think in the end it will look fine. I will post a couple more picks shortly with the first coat of estapol on.
