63/64 Combo Gear
Hi,
Does anyone know where to find a 63/64 Combination Gear from, or has one to sell?
I don't think Mal has any and Mick Moyles doesn't have any either.
I want to try and cut a 8 TPI thread on my Metric 260.
Cheers Ben.

Ben 63/64 is not a perfect translation, not sure how accurate you need the 8 tpi, but thought I'd mention it given that's a leadscrew pitch.
Here's a 120/127 from AMH. The ratio is the same, but perfect translation. I don't know if there is any problems fitting it on the 260 but I suspect not.

Thanks for the replies.
More options than I realized, especially re the bigger gear.

Ben, I don't know what I was saying, I said the 120/127 ratio is the same, when in fact it clearly isn't. You may have to write your own threading table if you used the 120/127, but at least you would have accurate threads.
If you don't mind the inaccuracy, and Hercus themselves clearly didn't, then this is the actual recommended gear.

Hi,
No worries Pete, the 120/127 gear price kinda put me off. I have read something about the inaccuracies of the 63/64 gear but I think I can live with it. However, my funding has hit a all time low so that little project goes on the back burner for awhile.
But on a good note, my castings from MLA turned up today. I will hopefully post a new thread with photos and plenty of questions soon.
Cheers Ben.

Well they say you can't take your money with you when your dead, so I guess that I definitely can't take my lathe either.
I did pay $20 for a 50 tooth gear from Mick Moyles as well, I still will need a 63/64 gear and a 48 tooth gear. So its starting to add up, have to save some money.
Cheers Ben.

Hi,
I purchased the cross slide, taper attachment and milling base (I think). I will be posted a new thread soon but family/social commitments will slow me down some. And unfortunately I have for the time being lost access to the milling machine was I intending on using for the cross slide.
But hopefully I will start the thread early next week with pictures of what I've bought.
Cheers Ben.

Excellent Ben, I look forward to that. I hope you're able to blog the progress of them here so I can shamelessly copy your hard work when it comes time to do mine. Please be sure to insert plenty of intentional screw-ups in the process so I won't feel so bad when my turn comes

Hi Pete,
I wont know until Friday where I'll be working for April (long story) but hopefully the place will have a mill. If it doesn't I wont start on the cross slide until possibly May and if that's the case I wont post anything until then.
I'm sure I'll be stumped on more than one occasion. Here's hoping to working at a Mill friendly place. I'll have to find my digital camera as well.
Cheers Ben

Excellent, I look forward to it. Let me know if you run short of screw-ups and want to borrow some of mine, as I have plenty to spare!

Ben
You may know this but:
PAULA , a member on the PC forum, posted a detailed account , with pics, of the machining of the MLA extended cross slide . I saved it onto a memory stick, but you can find it there in the South Bend sub-forum
