At the Pickles auction in Brisbane for the four Sheraton lathes, The first lathe went cheapest and each succeeding lathe went for a higher bid. Also all the chucks and parts were sold as one lot, looks like they are grouped with the lathes this time.

Looks like these could be a batch of lathes from a school or TAFE. Just a warning to check for potential student abuse - damage from dropped chucks, broken gear teeth etc.

Pickles auctioned a similar number of 260's and a couple of 9 inch lathes about a month ago. The 260's all had flame hardened beds and where fitted with either Algra or Rapid quick release tool posts. Unfortunately there were no toolholders. Only one lathe had a matching tailstock. I checked the headstock gearing and found no missing teeth on any of the lathes. Overall, they were in pretty good condition
Bidding started at 1000 dollars and bids were in increments of 250 dollars. The first lathe auctioned was the one with matching serial numbers, It sold for 1500 dollars in about 30 seconds. The next lathe also sold for the same price. I don't know if people realise the importance of matching tailstocks. I left after the second machine was sold.
The lathes being offered in the coming auction look like they originated from the same place as those I saw. Could be another batch of nice machines.
Happy Bidding,
Bob.

As a point of interest, when multiple identical items are auctioned off, inevitably the first is the cheapest. Everyone hangs back to see what they will cost. By the time the last one comes up, sometimes it goes for significantly more since people have left their dash too late.
I have seen it many times.

Does anyone know what sort of money these lathes fetched. I note only 3 of the 260's were in the auction. Thanks, Alan.
