There are 3 different plates for the Model O?
I have 2 of them, including like this one on Ebay.
Darn, I thought I had the whole set, being double sided.

Excellent descriptive photo, as usual Bob.
Would you be so kind as to tell me what number of holes are on the other side of the middle plate? (the one with 47 holes)

It's evident that these are not super accurate plates - the holes don't look perfectly spaced in some places.

How can you tell from the picture that the holes are not evenly spaced?

    Default Out of whack

I can tell you they are not all on the exact pitch circle diameter. It's a struggle to wedge the plunger on the indexing arm into the some of the holes.

It's not too hard to see. This detail is of the third plate.

A little disappointing about the quality! Has anyone used other division plates on their dividing heads? I see them come up from time to time on ebay but don't know if they fit, or can be made to fit. I haven't had a good look at mine as yet, work is very busy, but it came with just one plate. I would like to make up a metric transposing gear but they don't list 127 teeth in the division table from what I could see. Is it possible to cut this gear using the Hercus plates then???

    Default 172 Divisions

    Pete,

I don't have a Hercus division table but I do have an Ellis table. They used a 40:1 ratio as per Hercus. Ten hole spacing in a 43 hole circle will provide 172 divisions. I will scan the Ellis tables and post them here later.

If you don't have plate no.2 I can lend you mine.

Think you would need to use compound indexing or a 127 hole plate.

Thanks bob, I'll check which plate I have (bit busy splashing around in my kitchen with flooded dishwasher at the moment). But still keen to look into option of plates off eBay. Was in per yesterday, better weather than east coast that's for sure!

    Default Ring in.

    Pete,

The Hercus plates are smaller than any I've seen on Ebay. From memory, 3 inches in diameter. To utilize a larger plate, you would need to make new sector arms and a new crank arm. The thickness of any alternative plate might cause another problem. The wave washer tensioning the sector arms may not fit properly.

    Bob.
