Hercus model C info
I've got a Hercus model C # 3867 that doesn't have automatic saddle and x feeds but has the 1/2 nut lever. I must admit I didn't notice that when I bought the lathe. Any information about the machine would be appreciated.

Welcome to the most informative metalwork forum on the net

I tnink you can power feed with the half nuts , only sideways ?

You can do longitudinal feed with the half nuts, youll need a 54-18 and a 72-18 compound gears, an 80T keyed gear and something small to put on the stud gear. If youre a smart cookie, one of your first jobs with the machine could be to fit a small motor to the cross feed lead screw.

Screw Cutting Gear Chart
Hello,
Your photos don't show the cover for the screw-cutting gears so in case you don't have it, I am attaching the chart usually found on the cover.
Cheers,
Findlay.

Nice looking machine.
In short, just like Dad's South Bend that I learnt on. One of the great things about the flat belt is that it can be easily moved between ratios. It ca also be left a little loose to reduce the breakage risk. Good for both my and Dad's nerves in the early days.
Although the qick change gearbox is convenient, I've heard it argued that being able to set the ratios direcy with the gears can be more logical.
Hope all goes well for you.cheers
David
