Have noticed something strange on my headstock spindle - ie I move the chuck slightly before the whole spindle spins - you can feel it, a tiny change in resistance.

I think its a loose / damaged bull pin.

A) Its always been loose and I simply didnt notice it - This seems unlikely, my memory is that the bull pin was always a tight snug fit and that slight "backlashy" feeling was never evident before when I turned the spindle by hand.

B) Pull the bull pin out and have a look

I've got the 9" Guide to Renovating but cant find any notes re the bullpin.

Google and forum searches not terribly helpful, Mal has bull pins and retaining clips for sale.

Do I just somehow get behind the bull wheel and remove the clip and then the bull pin or do I have to do a full spindle removal ?

........... then while I am at it I might as well do this that and the other ......... and for me that's a big job. Character building.

Off to the shed to have another look and a fiddle about.
