Default TECO Single Phase Motor for Hercus No.O

Ken had asked me for some photos of the motor I once had powering my mill. I paid a bit over 200 dollars for the TECO. I subsequently located a star/delta wound ASEA motor of the same size and appearance as the original ASEA fitted by Hercus which I ran via a TECO FM50 VFD. The motor is about 300mm in length, roughly 85 mm longer than the original.

I'm posting the photos here because there's a good chance Ken would lose them if I sent them to him.

    Default 0 mill motor replacement

Thank you Bob, beautiful pictures that we've come to expect.

Has using the VFD made using the mill a nicer experience?

    Me....? lose photos, never!

In any case, I can always rely on you to dig them out of your archives.

    Hi Bob,

Is the +85mm motor the TECO or the ASEA?

    Ken,

The VFD provides the option of a gentle ramped start and stop along with variable speed. The single phase motor's start and stop is abrupt with no speed control.

The TECO is the longer of the two Jordan.

Hi Ken,I have a cheap VFD on my mill, works fine. Just as AB said, easy start up and stopping plus variable speed and reverse. The original motor that came on my mill was able to be converted to run a VFD. Only cost $50 or $60 (I think). On my 260 I converted it to single phase, which I regret due to the above reasons and how harsh the start up is.Ben
