    Default 1/8" or 3mm stock

    Hi from Perth (Australia)

I have some projects I would like to do with 1/8" inch or 3mm Jarrah (mainly for contrast against pine but happy to hear suggestions)

Most places like Bunnings have mainly 12mm and 19mm.

The bandsaw I have is too small to resaw these to 3mm and I have a thicknesser, but as you can probably understand I don't want to pay for 12mm or 19mm just to turn it into shavings.

    What do others do?

I usually use Marine Ply from Bunnings it holds together better & has less voids & I can usually find the right colour to suit the project .otherwise there is a place in Queensland you could check out ,It is J & C Thin Timber Supplies. Ph No (07) 54837670 they sell solid timbers for scroll saw work from 3 to 12 mm .Not sure what the postage would be to Perth though. Cheers Peter

    Contacted Jeff and Ann

They have retired and decided to take a well earned break and travel.

Unfortunately they are no longer an option.

Thinking of making a Kerfing Saw/Plane and then using a combination of Japanese Saw or Roubo Frame saw and then the thicknesser to clean up the sawn side.

Again - happy to hear suggestions from others

I guess the clue is in the name but, where are you within this wide brown land of ours?
Whenever I am resawing, I keep the offcuts that are thinner than needed for the job at hand and then, when using the drum sander, I also run these pieces through and throw them into a bin called 'THINS'. There is also a bin called 'PEN BLANKS'.
When these bins are full, I empty them into the most appropriate garbage/recycling bin ...... and start again?

I'll be resawing some sapele today and there will be left overs! Sapele is a rich tan to red colour, much darker than pine. If you are interested, what is the smallest size you would be interested in?
Im happy to throw some pieces 3mm thick up to A4 size into a postpak and send to you?
    PM your address if interested?
