18" carba-tech
Mate's, I need some help & advice please,
After reading about which scroll saw to buy in this forum I bit the bullet & purchased a
18' carba-tech. I had a second hand 16" ryobi which had come to it's used by date & had served me well. My problem is the top arm of the new saw is not aligned with the bottom arm. It is about 4mm out of wack. There is no advice in the manual about adjustment. The saw turned up too late in the day to ring carba-tech, I will ring them tomorrow, but I thought I should ask someone who has used this saw if this is normal.
If anyone can offer any advice on my problem it would be much appreciated.
Thank's in advance j&j

I bought mine from Carroll's and had no trouble. Ummm, that doesn't sound good. The only advice I could give is not to touch it and send it back to them. There is not an extra washer between the bush and the bow, is there? Or something along those lines? That's all I can think of. Did you assemble it or buy it assembled? I have never actually checked mine ( a Trupro) but I wouldn't imagine that would be normal. Does it run smoothly?

I have a similar saw, but didnt get it from Carba-Tec. Is it out of alignment sideways or from front to back? Are the blade clamps in the right way? Any chance of some pics to get an idea of what you mean.
I might have to check my WMS when I get home, but cant say I have noticed any mis-alignment with it.Brett

18" carba-tech
To trustinggibsie & Oges,Thanks for your help. I rang carba-tech this morning 5/10, they are looking into it. The saw came assembled, the blade chucks are in place & I wont start it until I sort this problem out.
The problem is, with the blade tensioned & you sight from the blade to the rear of the machine the bottom of the blade is approx 3 to 4 mm to the left of the top of the blade. It is nowhere near 90 deg to the table. So it cannot possibly cut square.
Thank's again for your reply's

I know this is a dumb question, but is it a case of the arms being out of align, or the table not square to the blade?

18" carba -tec
G'day Noel,
Carba -tec rang me back this afternoon & suggested I send the saw back to them which I have done. It did not help where I moved the table to, & about alignment of the arms, possibly, I dont know. But it is not suitable to me for a brand new saw. I shall await carba-tec's responce. thanks again for your interest & I will keep you advised of any progress regards j&j

18" carba-tec saw update
carba tec received the dud saw today but were too busy to look at it.They had no other saws in stock so they offered to repair the first one. This was not suitable to me for obvious reasons & also time delay. A refund was offered but after some haggling they suggested a saw out of carba-tec melbourne direct to me, which was accepted.
I believe they done their best in this problem & I will continue to deal with them.
Thank's to all who offered advice on this.

Well, it seems you have the problem sorted. I know when you have it up and running properly you will be very happy with it, J&J. As I say, mine is a different brand - Trupro - but for all intents and purposes the same saw and I have had it for several years now and it runs just as nicely as the day I got it. If you would like a decent manual for it just download the Hegner one, or PM me and I will email you mine. (The Hegner and the Trupro/CT are identical).

The first thing I did before purchasing my Excalibur was checkout the reviews on the net, after being satisfied I made my purchase. Carba-tec like many shops carry good with the crap so it really pays out to do your homework before leaping into anything.

Hi,
I wish you all the very best with your Excalibur. I don't have one and wouldn't buy one unless I knew it came from USA. From reading on the various forums the Australian bought ones seem somehow different. I also know several people with the Australian bought ones and heard their sorrows, mind the odd one had no problems.
Hopefully section1 you did your research on the local sites.

p.s. There is a guy in Kalgoorlie who told a tale on http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/ I'm not sure that he posts on this one and I can't find his posts, pity. Worth a read BUT before you buy!Last edited by hawkinob; 17th October 2011 at 10:56 PM. Reason: Added the postscript.
